Campbell Avenue property to be redeveloped for artists

(RECAP: Four local businessmen have teamed up to purchase and renovate a decaying Roanoke property with plans to turn it into 28 apartments, ranging from studios to two-bedrooms, and will offer 12 studios for artists. The 36,000-square-foot building, which housed Leggett Department Store for many years, sold for $375,000 on Aug. 15 to a limited liability company managed by developers John Garland, Cecil Doyle and Ken Ferris and architect Bill Huber. The new owners will begin the heavy renovation work in January, and expect the building to be finished by September 2015. The apartments will be available to anyone, not just artists.)
